Learning Chinese Characters III

Chinese characters are pictures. It is interesting to learn the evolution of those pictographs despite you don’t need to remember what they are. Altogether there are around one hundred basic characters like these, and the effective way to learn or remember them is to link them with pictures. They are the rudimentary characters and your vocabulary would be greatly expanded after you grasped them. I will introduce them in the following days.
The Character 妈 would be easier to remember.
妈 ： 女（women, signific part）+ 马（phonetic part）
Tell the difference of their writing: 鸟 乌. I always think that the “丶” inside the character “乌” just like the sharp beak of a bird. The character乌 means black or dark.

乌 云 (black or dark cloud)
Guess the difference of the meaning between 鱼 and 渔 渔： 氵（signific part representing water）+鱼 (phonetic part with meaning) We have learned the character 水， and the part “氵”is called san dian shui in Chinese, which representing water. Then the character渔 has something to do with water and fish. They pronounce the same and the later means “fisherman” and it sometimes means the verb fishing in ancient Chinese or Chinese idioms. There is a famous Chinese saying “授之以鱼，不若授之以渔”, which means It would be better to teach them the method of fishing rather than offering them fish. Is there a similar idiom in English? Let me know, your guys. By the way, the idioms is quite formal with ancient Chinese tones, if you, try to speak it with an incorrect tones invented by yourself, Chinese would be puzzled while looking at you: “What do you mean?”
